Restoran Dragon One @ SS2 PJ

Hidden right in the bustling enclave of food in SS2, resides a restaurant that serves Shanghai-style dishes like dim sum at affordable prices. It is already well known among the locals for its affordable but yet tasty dishes. Take note that this restaurant is not to be confused with a restaurant chain that has a somewhat similar name – Dragon-i.

As you can see it was raining and couldn’t ask more than for nice hot dishes to be eaten.

The very brightly coloured orange Menu

The inside decor in very much traditional Chinese inspired

There is quite a variety of drinks to choose from like the usual drinks of coffee and tea to fruit juices, ice blended drinks and milk shakes.

L-R: Dragon Fruit Ice Blended (RM 5.90), Papaya Milkshake (RM 5.90), Roselle Flower Juice (RM 5.00)

Front to Back: OREO Milk Shake (RM 6.50) and Ice Cream Red Bean Snow (RM 4.30)

After having our rather very cold drinks on a cold raining day…bbrrr…time to have some nice hot food. First up was the dim sums which this restaurant is particularly famous for as well. My all time favourite is a specialty here which is Xiao Long Bao then followed closely by Siu Mai.

restorandragonone_10

Steamed Shanghainese Meat Dumpling with Superior Soup or better known as Xiao Long Bao (RM 6.00)

restorandragonone_11

The scientific test – does the skin tear ? Looks like the skin is just thick enough to hold the soup inside without tearing

restorandragonone_12

Steamed Spinach Dumpling with Water Cress (RM 4.80) – I just like how the smell and taste of the chives goes well with the fresh prawns.

We all know the famous Char Siew Pao but this Shanghai version is different as you can see from the picture below. Oozing with sauce, it is more moist compared to the bun of the Char Siew Pao which is fluffier.

restorandragonone_13

Shanghai Pan Fried Meat Buns (RM 5.00)

restorandragonone_16

Juicy meat with the bun sprinkled with sesame seed and chives

restorandragonone_15

Steamed Fish Skin Dumpling with Oyster Sauce (RM 4.80)

Have a peek inside this dumpling :)

Allthough this is a deep fried dish, one would think it would be really greasy/oily but surprisingly it wasn’t.

restorandragonone_17

Deep Fried Spring Onion Pancake (RM 5.50)

restorandragonone_18

Stir Fried Rice Flour Roll with Spicy Sauce (RM 4.50)

Another different dish, looks like your typical Char Kuey Teow but if you look closely, the noodles used are different. Semi translucent and slightly wider, this noodle has that slight crisp to it compared to the spongier kuey teow noodle.

restorandragonone_19

Stir Fried Bean Sheet with Shrimps (RM 8.20)

Initially when this dish was served, I thought hmm..how are we supposed to eat this cos it looked very creatively done. The orange sauce went well with the prawn as it wasn’t too overpowering of its tangy taste.

restorandragonone_20

Deep Fried Prawn Roll with Orange Sauce (RM 5.00)

restorandragonone_21

Deep Fried Prawn Roll with Squid Paste and Cheese (RM 4.80)

restorandragonone_22

Stir Fried Glutinous Rice Cake with Crab Roe and Shrimps (RM 9.80)

Pasta dish at a Chinese restaurant? Not an uncommon thing thanks to other outlets like Kim Gary that serves dishes with cheese.

restorandragonone_23

Baked La Miam with Cheese (RM 7.20)

restorandragonone_24

Look at the cheese clinging to the noodles..slurp

This dish is slightly different as  it uses the chee cheong fun skin to wrap the yew char kueh. Texture wise, it is soft on the outside, crunchy in the inside.

restorandragonone_25

Stuffed Rice Flour Roll with Chinese Croissant and Squid Paste (RM 5.50)

restorandragonone_26

Stuffed Rice Flour Roll with Duck Meat in Crab Sauce (RM 6.80)

restorandragonone_22

Stir Fried Glutinous Rice Cake with Crab Roe and Shrimps (RM 9.80)

For dessert and to all those who loves the king of fruit, you can now have it served in this pancake style. Rich and creamy on the inside with its fragrant (well to those who loves it :p ) smell wrapped by the soft skin and filled with cream.

restorandragonone_27

Durian Pancake (RM 4.60)

A tradiontional dessert, Gui Ling Kuo but this time served with infused Aloe Vera Syrup instead of the traditional honey.

restorandragonone_28

Herbal Jelly with Aloe Vera Syrup (RM 5.00)

The person behind it all, Chef Loong has been a veteran in the hotel industry and hence why it  now all makes sense how these dishes are prepared the way they are. Its like eating hotel quality dishes without the hefty price tags.
